Chamomile
Watercolor Painting
This chamomile watercolor is one of my quieter floral studies. I wanted it to feel light, open, and almost weightless, so I kept the composition very simple: just three flowers, long stems, and a lot of empty space around them.
What I like here is the contrast between delicacy and movement. Chamomile flowers are visually very soft, but the stems create a gentle rhythm that carries the eye through the whole page. I tried to keep the petals transparent and pale, while giving the yellow centers just enough warmth to hold the composition together.
I painted this in a very restrained way, without adding unnecessary detail. For me, the beauty of this piece is in how little it needs. The white background, the thin stems, and the slight differences between the three flowers create a calm, observational mood that feels closer to a quiet note from nature than to a decorative floral print.
I often return to these small botanical watercolor studies because they let me focus on balance, softness, and presence. Even with a minimal subject, I want the painting to feel alive and attentive.
