Coral Lighthouse Watercolor Postcard

This watercolor postcard is part of my small landscape series, where I work with simple архитектural forms and open natural space. In this piece, I painted a lighthouse standing alone in a coastal field, with a low sea horizon and a soft sky behind it. I liked the contrast between the geometric vertical shape of the lighthouse and the more organic texture of the grass around it.

I worked with watercolor in a way that lets the paper stay visible and active in the final image. The texture of the watercolor paper is an important part of the piece for me — it helps the sky feel lighter and gives the painted surface a softer, more breathable quality. I also used layered warm and cool tones so the lighthouse would feel bright without becoming flat.

What I especially like in this work is how much the painting changes depending on the light. In softer light, the colors feel calmer and more muted. In direct sunlight, the coral tones become warmer, the shadows sharper, and the paper texture much more noticeable. Because this is an original watercolor painting, the interaction between pigment, paper, and light becomes part of the artwork itself.

This piece continues my interest in watercolor postcard painting, coastal landscape art, and quiet architectural subjects. I like keeping these compositions simple, so the mood, color, and material can do most of the work.
