Watch Your Time is a surreal plant illustration created for an Instagram art challenge. Built around a visual pun, the artwork combines botanical character design, conceptual humor, and editorial-style storytelling through a simple but memorable top-down composition.
The idea was to combine a human gesture with a plant body: checking the time on a wristwatch, but with a leaf instead of a hand and a flower pot instead of a grounded human stance. That contrast is what interested me most. It turns an everyday action into something surreal, while still keeping the image readable right away.
I approached the piece in a clean, graphic way so the concept would stay strong. The top-down perspective helps make the composition feel more immediate, almost like a snapshot of a moment, while the wooden floor gives the scene a domestic, familiar setting. That familiarity makes the surreal part work better for me.
This illustration sits between editorial illustration, conceptual art, and surreal botanical character design. Even though it started as an Instagram challenge, I see it as part of my broader interest in visual storytelling through simple but unexpected ideas. I like images that feel playful on first look, but become more interesting once you notice the visual logic holding them together.
