Lupine flower
I created this lupine illustration as part of my botanical series, where I explore plants that feel both structured and expressive at the same time. Lupines are especially interesting to me because of their vertical rhythm—how the flowers build upward in layers, almost like a natural pattern.
In this piece, I focused on that upward movement, starting from the dense cluster of blossoms and leading into the tighter green bud at the top. I used soft pink tones to keep the flower feeling light and airy, while the leaves add a deeper green contrast and help ground the composition.
Even though this is made digitally in Procreate, I approached it the same way I would a traditional watercolor piece—building color gradually, keeping the edges slightly imperfect, and preserving a paper-like texture in the background. I want the illustration to feel calm, natural, and slightly tactile.
This work is part of my ongoing interest in botanical illustration, floral studies, and nature-inspired digital art. I’m especially drawn to plants like lupine that have a strong structure but still feel soft and organic.
