From a Random Pinterest Image to a Frog Painting – Digital Animal Illustration Timelapse
Sometimes I like to begin with almost nothing – no plan, no carefully chosen theme, no long search for the “right” idea. Just a small moment of curiosity.
This time I opened Pinterest, typed in something as simple as random pictures, and let the world choose for me. And there it was: a tiny frog on a branch, with a butterfly resting on its head as if it had landed there for a secret, gentle meeting. I loved the image immediately. It felt a little funny, a little magical, and very alive.
So I kept it.
I wanted to take that accidental little scene and pass it through my own hands, my own colors, my own tenderness for animal subjects. That is one of my favorite parts of drawing: when something casual and fleeting turns into a real piece with its own mood. The sketch began with the simplest outline – just the frog, the butterfly, the branch, the balance of shapes. Very light, very quiet. And then, little by little, the character began to appear.
The frog became brighter, softer, more jewel-like. The butterfly grew warmer, richer, more delicate in the wings. I wanted the whole work to feel vivid and kind at the same time – as if this tiny creature belonged to a small, peaceful fairytale hidden somewhere inside an ordinary day.
I think that is why I return to animals so often in my art. They let me keep wonder close. Even a quick study or a spontaneous redraw can become something emotional: a pause, a smile, a breath. Not everything has to begin with a grand concept. Sometimes beauty arrives as a random pin on a screen, and all you have to do is notice it.
This post holds the full time-lapse of that process – from the first simple lines to the finished digital illustration. A small found inspiration from Pinterest, turned into a bright little creature in my own style.
